The American Academy of Pediatrics Early Education and Child Care Special Interest Group (EECC-SIG)


What is the EECC SIG?


The EECC SIG is a group of certified health professionals who work with AAP staff to ensure health and safety in early education and child care.

Join with other interested AAP members and affiliates advocating for healthy child care in the United States. The EECC-SIG provides a forum for pediatricians and other health professionals working to make a positive difference in the health and safety of children in child care to share successes and strategies, and sponsor educational programs that highlight aspects creating healthier child care environments. The EECC-SIG also supports the work of the Health and Child Care Partnership program by disseminating information and linking members to address problems specific to local or regional care of children in child care.

There are currently over 220 members of the EECC-SIG, including a Steering Committee comprised of ten health profesionals. Current Steering Committee Members are:

Some benefits of being an EECC-SIG member include:

  • Opportunities to dialogue through e-mail lists and at meetings.
  • Bi-monthly facilitated discussions on topics of interest.
  • Informational e-mail updates on current news, relevant funding opportunities, and new resources.

There is no charge to join Early Education and Child Care SIG if you are a member of the AAP Council on Community Pediatrics. Pediatricians and non-pediatricians may join the Council on Community Pediatrics for a nominal fee.

As a member on the Council of Community Pediatrics, you will be provided the following resources and opportunities:

  • The Council on Community Pediatrics newsletter, which includes important announcements about funding opportunities, conferences, etc.
  • The Council on Community Pediatrics e-mail list, which is used as a forum to ask questions and provide feedback on articles and other documents.
  • Funding opportunities through the Section Mentorship and Technical Assistance Program (MTAP). MTAP can provide section members up to $2,000 in funding to assist them in improving their community pediatrics skills and/or develop innovative programs within their community.
