Outreach and Membership
Chairperson: Danette Glassy, MD, FAAP
Purview:
- Maintain the AAP Chapter Child Care Contact (CCCC) network and implement a plan to mentor and support these contacts
- Encourage AAP members and eligible affiliate members to join and remain involved in the section
Projects:
- Identify/train CCCCs
- Communicate quarterly with CCCCs
- Develop and share resources customized for CCCCs
- Develop/implement membership recruitment and orientation efforts
Communications
Chairperson: Laura Jana, MD, FAAP
Purview:
- Oversee and provide input on Section communication vehicles (eg, Web site,
electronic newsletters [E-News], educational handouts to facilitate communications among members, other AAP groups, and external organizations
Projects:
- Use Section Survey results to develop member opportunities and resources
- Engage members in Section activities by identifying opportunities and sharing them on the Section electronic mailing list or in the quarterly E-News
- Assist in reviewing Web site and publication content
Advocacy
Chairperson: David Willis, MD, FAAP
Purview:
- Work with the Committee on Early Childhood, Adoption, and Dependent Care to develop and implement policy recommendations
- Identify resources and ways to assist Section members to promote quality child care at all levels
Projects:
- Revise and transform The Pediatrician's Role in Promoting Health and Safety in Child Care manual into a Web-based tool
- Develop a plan to implement recommendations in the policy statement on quality early education and child care
- Work with the CCCCs to help them advance policy that supports quality early childhood programs at state and local levels
Research

Purview:
- Work with the AAP Child Care, Health, and Early Education Research (CHEER) Consortium to facilitate health surveys and research in child care settings
Projects:
- Maintain a Literature Review and list of published child care and health research
- Compile information on child care and health research projects and identify ways that CHEER and Section members can support this work
- Work in collaboration with the Social Sciences Research Center (SSRC) at Mississippi State University to enhance the existing national datase of licensed child care programs
Training and Education

Purview:
- Develop and coordinate educational programming (networking, training opportunities, strategies, and resources) for all target audiences
Projects:
- Coordinate Section networking meetings and events annually
- Develop session proposals for AAP and other national conferences
- Support Section members to present educational sessions at meetings, conferences, and other venues
Resident/Medical Student Education Subcommittee

Purview:
- Support pediatricians who teach medical students and residents about early education and child care
Projects:
- Opportunities and resources for pediatric program directors, community pediatrician preceptors, and others who train residents/students
- Strengthen linkages with the Resident Section and the Community Pediatrics Training Initiative
- Compile and share previous and current curricula
AAP National Conference & Exhibition Planning Subcommittee
Chairperson: George Blum, MD, FAAP
Purview:
Identify topics and develop written session proposals for Section members and general pediatricians that can be submitted for presentation at the AAP National Conference and Exhibition
Education of Child Care Providers
Chairperson: TBD
Purview:
- Support and mobilize pediatricians and child health professionals to provide health and safety education to caregivers and teachers
- Develop proposals, and present at national conference such as the National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC) and the National Association for Family Child Care (NAFCC)
