Almost all young children go to preschool or an early education and child care program. There are many different kinds of programs, including:
- Parent-only care
- Care by a relative
- Non-relative care by nannies, neighbors, and friends (in another family’s home or in the child's home)
- Child care centers
- Centers for children with special needs
The AAP uses the words, "early education and child care" to show that children learn in all places where they receive care. Quality child care programs help children to grow and learn while they improve children’s health.
As a parent, it is important to make sure that your child is in a quality child care program to keep him/her safe, healthy, and well cared for. In this section of the Web site, you will find important information to help you find quality care for your child.
